A Career in Education
I chose Education as my major because I have always known since I was a little girl that I wanted to be a teacher. I would come home from school and play school with my 'fake students'. I would also make my friends and cousins play school with me. In high school my passion for teaching continued to grow. Instead of going to my study hall I would help out in the special education classrooms. I was also the president of 2 clubs for the special education students my senior year. One of them was a club called FUSE which stood for Friends Unite Students Everywhere and we had an event every month. The other one was Purrfect Paws, which was a cheerleading team for the special education students. We would cheer with freshman, JV, or varsity during football or basketball games. We also made some appearances to cheer on the wresting and hockey team. It was always a highlight of my day to spend the day with them. I want to be able to make a difference in students' lives so they don't struggle like I did in school. Another reason that I chose education is my grandma Mary, who sadly passed away before I was born, but she was a pioneer in the field of special education. She impacted so many parents and students lives.
Advice to Prospective Students
When looking into a college like Mount, there are so many factors you look at. If you like a small school, close community, want to gain a lot from your education, and get to know your professors, than that is what Mount Union offers! Just take the tour, its worth it!
Choosing Mount Union
I learned about Mount Union through the teach out program that we had through Notre Dame College. When choosing a new school I wanted to feel welcomed. At first I wanted to go to Walsh but once they got NDC's rugby team they didn't really reach out anymore or try to help. When it came to touring Mount Union I instantly fell in love with the campus. I felt like I knew where I belonged. I met with a couple different staff members on my tour and they were all so kind, welcoming, and helpful. Just from one time of being on the campus I could really tell that the staff really cares about the students.
