Why Accounting?
I chose accounting as my major because I wanted to carve out a path that differed from my family's traditional careers in the medical, teaching, and engineering fields. I've always had a natural talent working with numbers, and I find it incredibly rewarding. Accounting provides me with the opportunity to utilize my strengths in a meaningful way and pursue a career that excites me with its diverse opportunities and potential for impact in the business world. My ultimate career goal is to work in finance within the sports industry or at a well-established firm. UMU is preparing me with a strong foundation in accounting and sports business through its comprehensive curriculum and supportive faculty.
Impactful Faculty Member
One faculty member who has had the most significant impact on my UMU experience has been Marci Muckleroy. Although I haven't had her as a professor, she is the advisor for Alpha Delta Pi and always goes out of her way to check on students. Marci's kindness and genuine care for others are truly remarkable. She often takes time to ask how I'm doing and how my school year is going. Marci is one of those people who always wants to see you succeed and ensure you don't give up. Her sweet and kind-hearted nature has made a significant difference in my experience at UMU.
Advice to Prospective Students
My advice to high school students looking at colleges and universities is to get involved in extracurricular activities and take advantage of opportunities to develop new skills. Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Participating in clubs, sports, and volunteer work can help you discover your passions, build a strong resume, and make lasting connections. These experiences can also provide valuable insights into what you want from your college experience and future career.
