Director of Public Service

I have no doubt that the rigorous legal studies curriculum made me more prepared for law school than most of my law school classmates. As for my career, I apply the principles I learned in my political science and legal studies classes almost every single day.

Education

B.A. Political Science

Location

Poland, Ohio

I supervise hundreds of employees and numerous city departments, including the Civil Engineering, Street, Sanitation, Collection Systems, Water and Water Reclamation departments. I also negotiate collective bargaining agreements and other contracts on behalf of the city, and I represent the city’s service departments at all official events.

Presidential Scholarship

I chose Mount for several reasons. When I visited the campus as a senior in high school, I loved how much the campus reminded me of my hometown. While on that visit, I had the opportunity to sit in on a class, and I really enjoyed the classroom experience. I was also very fortunate in that I received a Presidential Scholarship, so that made my decision to attend Mount that much easier.

Commitment to Education

What sets Mount apart is the commitment to a comprehensive liberal arts education. It is this commitment that ensures that Mount students are well-rounded individuals who have the tools they need to succeed in just about any setting once they graduate.

Impactful Professors

My political science and legal studies professors were all great, so it is impossible to choose just one. They all played such an important role in shaping me into the individual that I am today, and I am forever grateful for that. They pushed me to believe in myself and to do great things in my career and life in general.

Internship Experience

I was an intern in the Warren, Ohio office of Congressman Tim Ryan during the summer between my sophomore and junior years. The political science department helped me get the internship, and it was an amazing experience.

Law School

After leaving Mount, I went straight to law school.  I received my Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2010.  My first professional job came after graduating from law school and passing the Ohio Bar Exam, when I became a lawyer at a small firm in the Youngstown, Ohio area.

Rigorous Curriculum

My education at Mount prepared me for both law school and my current career. I have no doubt that the rigorous legal studies curriculum made me more prepared for law school than most of my law school classmates. As for my career, I apply the principles I learned in my political science and legal studies classes almost every single day. However, I have also found myself calling upon what I learned in my many elective classes on a fairly regular basis as well.

Connecting with Students

I still keep in touch with several of the professors I had at Mount, and I attend pre-law networking events with current students. I also recently spoke to a local government class about my work with the City of Canton.

Extending a Helping Hand

Professionally, my goal is to one day dedicate most of my time to providing pro bono legal services to those in need, especially those who have been wrongfully convicted of crimes.
