Why be a Double Major?
I chose Public Relations as my major because I have always loved writing and talking with people. I love creating engaging content and learning how businesses and organizations can connect with their audiences. Public Relations has such broad job opportunities as well and is a growing field as media becomes more prevalent. I've had the chance to be involved in a variety of clubs that have helped me grow my skills in PR and marketing. My favorite experience so far has been through PRSSA. We went to Ohio State and got to network with their sports public relations team and got to learn more about what they do. My ultimate goal is to work in corporate communications or a PR agency, helping brands build strong relationships with their target audiences.
College Life as a Student-Athlete
Balancing an academic schedule with extracurricular activities has been a challenge. At times, it feels overwhelming to manage everything, from classes and assignments to swim practice and being involved in clubs. However, this challenge has taught me the importance of time management and how to prioritize my commitments effectively. I've learned how to set goals, create schedules, and be disciplined. Eric Mojock, my swim coach, has made the biggest impact on me here at UMU. He has coached me outside of the pool as well, through life lessons and being very supportive. His support and encouragement have motivated me to push past my limits, both academically and athletically, and to believe in my abilities more than I ever have before. Being part of the swim team has also given me a sense of belonging and has been a major factor in making Mount Union feel like home.
Choosing Mount Union
Mount Union feels like a second home because of the tight-knit community and because everyone is so supportive. Whether it's my teammates, co-workers, faculty, or fellow students, I always feel like I'm part of something bigger than myself. Everyone has a unique place at a school like Mount Union. I knew I wanted to go to a smaller community feeling school where I could be highly involved. I did an overnight stay with the swim team and immediately loved the energy the team had and how welcoming everyone I met was. I knew attending Mount Union would make me so much more than just a number in a classroom.
