Overcoming Obstacles
As an out of state student I had a hard time during my freshman year being away from my family. Although after meeting other students in my major and joining a sorority I found a sense of community and belonging that made the transition much easier. The friendships I formed provided a support system that helped me navigate the challenges of college life. Over time, I learned to balance my academic life with my social life, which not only improved my grades but also enriched my overall college experience. Looking back, I realize that stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing the opportunities available to me was crucial in overcoming my initial struggles.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
During a "Careers in Politics" course I was able to meet Mount Union Alumni and understand more about the potential career opportunities and futures with a National Security and Foreign Intelligence Analysis degree from Mount Union. I was able to expand my network and connect with professionals who had successfully navigated their paths in these fields. Their stories and advice were valuable, offering insights into the daily routine and challenges of working in national security and intelligence.
Building a Home away from Home
My sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, fosters an immense "homey" feeling. From the moment I joined, I was welcomed with open arms by sisters who became friends. The bond we share is more than just a social connection; it's a network of support, encouragement, and mutual respect that transcends the college experience. Ultimately, it's the people I've met on campus—my sorority sisters, my classmates, and the faculty—combined with the welcoming atmosphere of the campus, that make UMU feel like a second home. It's a place where I can grow, learn, and create unforgettable memories.
