I have the privilege of leading a group of private physicians devoted to the health and wellness of women of all ages and stages of life. My job is to provide efficient and effective management and leadership of all administrative, operational, financial and strategic initiatives for the practice while allowing physicians to focus on providing quality patient-centered care.
Choosing Mount Union
Growing up just 15 minutes south of Mount Union, I was always aware of the school but didn’t really consider attending (or even applying) mostly because I didn’t think that I could afford it and perhaps because it was too close to home. After significant encouragement (almost daily) from my high school guidance counselor and my English teacher, I decided to “just visit” the campus. That visit changed everything! I found that I loved the campus, and the people and that I could afford to attend. I decided to attend Mount Union that day and never looked back!
Friendly People
Without a doubt, the people are what make Mount Union different from other universities. I was struck by how friendly and accessible the staff, students and faculty were on my first visit and I continue to feel that whenever I am on campus.
Favorite Professor
My favorite professor was Hugh Pinney. He was so effective at teaching the fundamentals of any subject while making it fun at the same time. Imagine doing that with accounting and tax courses!
Combination of Liberal Arts and Practical Preparation
In addition to providing an excellent foundation in accounting, business and finance, Mount Union’s unique emphasis on combining liberal arts with practical skills helped develop in me a much broader perspective and appreciation of the world around me. It also gave me the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. I had the opportunity to put that education to use in a real-world setting when I completed an internship at a local CPA firm in Alliance, OH.
First Steps
My first professional job right out of college was serving as a staff accountant in the Canton office of Ernst & Whinney (later Ernst & Young).
Staying in Touch with Friends
I still stay in touch with the friends I made at Mount Union … not as much as I would like, but social media has made that easier to do than in the past.
Staying Involved on Campus
I have had the honor of serving as a trustee of the University, which has allowed me to participate in so many events on and off campus – sporting events, performances, exhibits and lectures. I am looking forward to joining the alumni trip to Europe with the choir in 2015.
Service to Others
During my lifetime, I hope to continuously find ways to be of service to others in ways that are meaningful and inspiring.
