2025 Student Art Exhibit to Feature Historic Number of Mount Union Artists

March 27, 2025

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Sally Otto Gallery at the University of Mount Union will display one of the largest Student Art Exhibits in Mount Union history from March 20 – April 10. The exhibit features 32 Mount Union students’ work including paintings, drawings, photographs, graphic design, and sculptures.

Michael Cline ‘26, graphic design major, spoke of his experience of having two of his works featured, stating he is excited to be a part of such a large and meaningful exhibit.

“My main artwork being showcased is titled Becoming, Still, painted using archival ink and water. It features three figures in an empty space, captured in dynamic poses,” said Cline.

He hopes that viewers will consider the beauty of the human condition and reflect upon who or what they place their faith in during life’s most defining moments through his piece. A behind-the-scenes video showing the creative process of his piece can be viewed on his Instagram page.

Thanks to Mount Union’s coursework and faculty mentorships, the art program has helped Cline refine his technical skills, grow as a creative problem solver, and learn to tell stories through art.

“Mount Union’s art program has played a significant role in my artistic and personal development,” stated Cline. “The program’s supportive environment has also encouraged me to experiment with different mediums and expand my creative approach.”

Beyond college, Cline is excited to continue his pursuit of art. As the founder of M. Cline Designs, Cline is already working in the graphic design, branding, and marketing sphere.

“Whether through personal projects, exhibitions, or design work, I see art as a lifelong pursuit that will always be part of my career and creative journey.”

Natalie Clemens ’26, graphic design major, also shared her excitement about having her artwork featured in Mount Union’s largest student exhibit, which was her first-ever show entry.

Clemens’s piece, Forgotten, created in her Advanced Drawing class, depicts the interior of an abandoned building through an extreme perspective. Using charcoal and various graphite pencils, Clemens emphasizes the neglected atmosphere that inspired the piece’s title. Through the interplay of light and shadow, she hopes to evoke the feeling of being forgotten.

Clemens credits much of her success to Mount Union’s art program for giving her the tools and knowledge that helped her grow as an artist.

“Many professors here have helped me be better and provide such helpful feedback every class period. I use a lot of what I've learned every day and will in the future,” said Clemens.

After college, she plans to pursue art either in graphic design or another related design field in an industry that interests her such as music, sports, or film/TV.

I also plan to always do various types of art on my own as well because it's just fun for me,” said Clemens.

The Student Art Exhibit will remain open until April 10 and can be viewed in the Sally Otto Gallery located inside the Giese Center for the Performing Arts on Mount Union’s campus.
