Mount Union Announces New Associate’s to Master’s Pathway for OT, PT Assistants
December 11, 2025ALLIANCE — In an effort to leverage the experience and accelerate the career advancement of qualified occupational therapy assistants (OTAs) and physical therapy assistants (PTAs) with associate degrees, the University of Mount Union has developed a unique pathway for these professionals to earn their Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) degrees.
With no bachelor’s degree required to pursue this pathway, any individual with at least 90 semester credits and an applicable associate’s degree is encouraged to apply. Individuals must also complete all MSOT prerequisites with a grade of C or better to be considered for admission.

With a projected job growth of 12% through 2032, qualified professionals in the OT field are in significant demand. This direct pathway to graduate study enables individuals with years of patient care and clinical expertise to enhance their skillsets and advance in their careers.
“I’ve seen firsthand the dedication and skill OTA and PTA professionals bring to their patients every day,” said Dr. Carey Minard, associate professor and MSOT program director. “This pathway was designed to honor that experience and help them take the next step in their professional journey. It’s incredibly rewarding to support clinicians who are committed to growing their impact and shaping the future of occupational therapy.”
Recognized as a top-10 healthcare job by US News Best Jobs in 2025, Mount Union’s MSOT degree program prepares students for rewarding and fulfilling careers. The next cohort begins in August 2026, and those interested can learn more and apply at mountunion.edu/ota-pta-to-msot.
