ALLIANCE – Inspired by wanting to bring the campus community together, Reverend Tim Morrison, university chaplain, believed decorating and lighting up a holiday tree would do just that: spread the warmth and joy that the holidays bring. Over cookies and hot chocolate, Mount Union lit its holiday tree and welcomed the holiday season on Wednesday, November 12.
“When I started working at Mount Union three years ago, I noticed that we did not have a Christmas tree, and I felt that the campus could benefit from coming together and getting to know one another over holiday traditions,” said Morrison.
As this year marks the second time this tradition takes place, Morrison aims to invite local schools and community members to attend in the future; he’d like to deepen the relationships between the Mount Union and Alliance communities.
“People are going through different and difficult circumstances nowadays, and building traditions on campus like lighting a holiday tree, strengthens the support that we all as a campus give to each other, and we can spread that to others in the city of Alliance,” added Morrison.
“Coming together during the season that’s the hardest for a lot of people and celebrating the holidays is a way of opening our arms for what’s to come by doing it with the joy and light that God has been showing through us,” said Chapman.
Broyles explained that coming together as a campus helps lift each other and celebrate how different we all are.
"Traditions like the tree lighting or homecoming allow the campus to be unified around one topic: celebrating each other and what it means to be a Purple Raider,” said Broyles.
As a campus community, we wish you a Happy Holiday season!
