IRELAND - Traveling opens our eyes to new cultures, languages, and most importantly, experiences. Exercise science major, Olivia Ramming ‘27, is studying abroad in Cork, Ireland, and is exploring every open door leading to infinite opportunities.

“The academia in Ireland is very different from the US; classes are more independent -- I only have one class a day except on Tuesdays,” said Ramming. “My schedule has allowed me to explore the city and meet new people.”

Ramming earned USAC’s $1,000 regional scholarship and its $1,500 STEM scholarship, which helped her travel and spend the spring 2026 semester in Cork, Ireland. These scholarships will help her develop essential skills, such as communication and confidence, to become a physical therapist.

“Living in another country alone will also force me to make quick decisions and problem solve, enhancing my adaptability, which will help me in the future when I have to make fast decisions to help patients,” said Ramming.

While the scholarships she earned have helped her gain real-world experience in the exercise science field, Ramming is using her time in Ireland to strengthen her Catholic faith and find herself by enjoying time to herself.

“My Catholic faith is really important to me, so I have taken the initiative to get involved in a lot that University College Cork (UCC) has to offer for my faith,” said Ramming. “I met this nice girl, Sara, after mass one Sunday -- she has invited me to so many events like Bible study and has helped me become connected with the Catholic community on campus.”

Ramming explains that traveling to another country allows people to experience a different perspective of what the world has to offer. She adds that a global perspective can help us understand how different societies function.

“A closed perspective of the world holds limits to your career, aspirations, and skills,” said Ramming. “An open mind is limitless and holds incredible opportunities and insight to the world that we live in!”
