Hands-On Experience in PR

I have been given amazing opportunities to explore the social media and business industry during my time at Mount Union. I work as a student photographer for the marketing and sports information departments. I get to attend campus events and capture photos that are used on the university's social media platforms and other marketing materials. I have gotten to capture all types of events -- from the Schooler Lecture featuring Dawn Staley, university networking events, to football playoffs. This past year, I also helped get the School of Business LinkedIn platform off the ground during my internship with Dr. Amber Hunt. I spent the year learning the basics of content creation and got to network with several students, faculty members, and alumni. Besides the work study and internship opportunities, my favorite experiential learning opportunities are the networking events and conferences I get to attend with PRSSA. We have got to tour large agencies, meet industry professionals, and we even got to tour the Ohio State football facility last year!

"Knowing" that Mount Union was 'the School'

I had never heard about UMU until the summer before my senior year of high school. I decided to take a tour just to see a new place. I assumed it would just be another option on the list, but I knew I wanted to attend Mount as soon as I stepped on campus. It was the first tour I went on during my summer of college hunting, and every other campus just didn't have the same feeling as Mount. The welcoming students and faculty combined with the beautiful campus made Mount the place to be. All of the faculty within the School of Business have been amazing to get to know, but professor Ferraro and professor Evans have had the biggest impact on my experience at UMU. I love how they both incorporate their prior experience in the PR and marketing industries into their classroom curriculum. They really bring the class curriculum full circle with their real world examples.
