Choosing Mount Union
I first learned about Mount Union through my cousin, who was coming to play football. Hearing about his excitement and the opportunities available at the university piqued my interest. As I looked into the school, I discovered its strong academic programs, welcoming campus, and vibrant student life, which made it an appealing choice. In the end, Mount Union stood out as a place where I could thrive both academically and socially, and I felt confident that it was the right choice for me. All of the staff members at the IT helpdesk have had the biggest impact on my experience. One staff member in specific, Matthew Porter, has challenged and taught me the most. I am truly grateful for each and every single one of them who are preparing me for a bright and prosperous future.
Overcoming Obstacles
The death of my mother was most certainly one of those challenging times. When she died, I strongly believed that this would repel me beyond any recovery, both mentally and physically. Her death affected both my academic and personal life severely. Inside school, my grades began to decline, and I began to withdraw from social interactions. In order to regain control of my life again, I attended therapy sessions. Those therapy sessions taught me that life is like Newton's third law. Life demonstrates that for every action or challenge we face, there is an equal and opposite opportunity for growth and personal development. Learning this new perspective, my life began to turn around, I picked up my grades and became social again. Her death thought me many lessons that have led me to the present.
Why Computer Science?
I chose computer science as my major because of my deep-rooted passion for technology and its endless possibilities. From a young age, I found myself constantly exploring and experimenting with different aspects of computing, whether it was configuring monitors or tinkering with applications. Over time, I dedicated myself to mastering skills in software development and computer engineering, giving me a clear sense of purpose and direction. My ultimate goal is to leave a lasting impact on the future of technology, contributing meaningful advancements that shape the digital world. My ultimate career goal is to become a penetration tester. UMU is preparing me for that through its extensive computer science program and the staff members at the IT Helpdesk.
