Overcoming Obstacles in College

When I first came to Mount, I had to overcome many obstacles like learning how to navigate college as a first gen., study, ask for help, balance my academic and personal life, and while I'm still facing new challenges every day, learning how to tackle them has helped me grow as a student and as a person.

Advice to Prospective Students

If you're a high school student looking at colleges and universities, I believe it is extremely helpful to tour the campus, ask current students and alumni meaningful questions, talk to professors to see if the programs you're interested in are available, be mindful of requirements, prepare a plan that fits your desired program, and ask for help. Most colleges and universities will happily tell you what they offer and if you'd be a good fit; but remember that you can always say no, too, and provide your own thoughts!

Experiential Learning Opportunities

I've had the opportunity to participate in learning opportunities outside of the classroom by conducting research and volunteering as a peer notetaker.
