Welcome to the Department of Visual Arts and Media at the University of Mount Union. We offer degrees and courses for students who are interested in creative work like studio art, graphic design, and media production, as well as art education and media analysis.
A bachelor's degree in art provides you with the essential skills, tools, and resources you will need for personal interpretation and artistic expression. The bachelor's degree in media combines the study and analysis of mass media with the foundation of audio and video production skills necessary to succeed in digital media outlets.
All of our majors complete a four-year curriculum that lays a framework for success. Beginning with foundation courses, you will begin to sequentially build your knowledge from one class to the next. By gradually moving into the more advanced classes, you will be able to apply a foundation of skills toward more complex and focused concepts.
Students combine hands-on coursework with co-curriculars such as Kappa Pi, the honorary art organization on Mount Union’s campus, and Raider Student Media: WRMU, The Dynamo, and Studio M. We also encourage you to gain professional experience through other learning opportunities such as practicums, internships, and study abroad.
During your senior year, these skills are fully realized, developed, and exhibited publicly in either your Senior Culminating Experience or in a Senior Project. This is your chance to shine and show us what you can do.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the Department of Visual Arts and Media. If you would like more information or want to set up a time to meet one of our faculty in person or remotely, please feel free to contact us.
